A little bit about the  background of Matindas...

We are the sons, daughters, grandson, grand daughters and the third and fourth  generation of the Matindas Family who moved out of Manado , Minahasa, and settled in Kutaradja, Aceh, Indonesia in the late 19 century. These are the five brothers of Karel ,William, Jopie, George and Eddie Matindas, who are the sons of Gozal Matindas and Ani Gerung.
Gozal, the Cable Guy in Kutaradja,  was tortured by the Japanese during world war II, which contributed to his death few years later. Following his death, his wife moved to Palembang and then Jakarta and lived with Karel.

Slowly initiated by Karel, one by one of those brothers moved out to Batavia ( now Jakarta ), in Java island. Karel initially joined the Police Force, and later on switched to the Army, where he spent most of his working life until retirement. Karel met Roos  in one of the "Apoteek" in Batavia ( so we were told ), and later on got married, and blessed with 7 children, Sonya, Billy, Ben, Olle, Buddy, Ola and Wiebe ( The webmaster of this site ). They moved from city to city in Indonesia, such as Ambon, Palembang, Makassar and Jakarta.

William followed the lead of his elder brother and for a while settled in Batavia. During the Communist uprising in early 60's, William and his wife Fietje and all of their children moved to The Netherlands, where they spent the rest of their life in Trompet Straat in Nijmegen. They are blessed with Bibin, Eric, Nona and Bolle, who are each then found their own spouse.

Jopie, the third brother initially worked as sailor, and later on  married Yootje, and were blessed with two children, Nona and Boll.

George, the adventurer, worked as Air Traffic Controller, iniatially lived in Radjawali, Kemayoran but later on moved to Papua, where he then remarried. His children,  among others are :  John, Kiky, Aries and Novell. ( these details will be updated, once we got the complete story ).

Eddie, The Last Man Standing, is the youngest and still alive. He married Henny after his graduation from ITB in Bandung, and are blessed with four children, Charles, Pingkan, Chris and Pam. Eddie lived in The Netherlands for quite sometime, prior to heading home for good, with his entire family. He worked in several top oil companies and did travel a lot during his active duty. He is now retired and enjoying his life with his wife in Bintaro, Jakarta. If you follow the history of "Minahasa folk Hero story" you'll notice that the original Matindas, the Hero, had a wife by the name of Pingkan, and so He named his eldest daugter, Pingkan Matindas ( now married to Ferry ).

The complete Family-Tree is currently being developed by Chris in Jakarta. And as soon as they are ready, we will put it in one of the special Page.

We are currently scattered around the Globe, with most of us currently living in Jakarta, and Bandung, Indonesia.
The descendants of William are still in The Netherlands.
Barbara ( Billy's wife ) and their children Denise and Tobias are living in Bremen, Germany
Ruly and Orry, the children of Sonya are living in Australia, with their spouses and children.
Timothy, the son of Wiebe and Astrid is living in Vancouver, Canada, while his parents are living in Seoul Korea.

The Objectives..

We are hoping to make this site as one of the media that will enable members of the family to share their experiences and at the same time a media to ask  question(s), believing that one of us will be able to come up with answers, or if not ..perhaps pointing out direction as to where to proceed.

As this is the second version of the website of the whole family, we will keep it open to critics, suggestion and requests. In few months, hopefully we will be in the position to finalize the track of this website. In the mean time please keep posting the forum, with as many topics as possible.
